DSL (digital subscriber line)

DSL So what is it? DSL (digital subscriber line) is a technology which allows you direct high speed Internet access. It allows you to place and receive telephone calls WHILE using the Internet! Yes both services at the same time on one line.

The DSL Internet connection is on continuously, no dialing in required and no tracking hours used per month. DSL speeds being offered are 256K and 512K which are approximately 5-9 times faster then a 56K modem. Do you have large files to download or send does your company allow Internet access for work at home applications? This is the technology for you. Just want to browse and surf faster this will do it. And remember you still can use your phone, no second line to lease. Do you have multiple computers and want them all on the Internet? DSL will allow you to share the one connection with others at your location. (Please consult with your local computer expert for how to do this.)

Each package includes:
  • The use of 1 (one) external DSL modem.
  • 1 (one) POTS filter.
  • 1 (one) E-mail address.
  • 1 (one) IP address.

Required customer equipment: (Prior to DSL installation)

Please consult with your computer expert, Home Tel. does not install or sell NIC cards or cables.
  • A NIC (network interface card) 10/100 based installed in your PC.
  • A NIC 10 base-T cable from the NIC card to the DSL modem. If you are connecting one PC this is crossover cable, if going to a hub this is a straight through cable.

Packages and Pricing:

Installation fee is $95.00 for either residential or business DSL.

Residential DSL: Includes 2 E-mail addresses and 5 MB personal web site
  • DSL Speed of up to 256K is $39.95 per month.(NEW RATE)
  • With Home Tel Co. Long Distance 256K is $34.95(NEW RATE)
  • DSL Speed of up to 512K is $65.95 per month.
  • With Home Tel Co. Long Distance 512K is $59.95

Business DSL: Includes 4 E-mail addresses
  • DSL Speed of up to 256K is $75.95 per month.
  • DSL Speed of up to 512K is $115.95 per month.

Miscellaneous items:
  • Additional POTS filters $9.50. These would only be required if physically we cannot filter your wiring with the one filter provided.
  • Additional e-mail account $3.00

Notes, restrictions and limitations:
  • To have access to this service you must reside within @5 miles of the local telephone switch. This is a technology limitation not one imposed by Home Telephone. Some circuits even within range may not support DSL.
  • You must have local telephone service with The Home Telephone Company.
  • Delivered speeds will vary based on distance, facilities and the PC.
  • Modem ownership is retained by Home Telephone Company. The protocol used is proprietary and will not work on other systems. Modem charge is $250 for modems taken or maliciously damaged.
  • Since a DSL connection is always on (only available when your PC is on) you may wish to consider a firewall. This is especially important for business connections. Please consult with a computer expert on this issue.
